The NGS Parent College Program provides parents and caregivers with the skills, resources and tools they need to help their children access higher education and create college-bound culture in the family. Teachers hold regular meetings with parents to discuss challenges, priorities and strategies in each stage of the college application process. They receive assistance in communicating with schools and completing financial aid documents. Staff members meet one-on-one with families to design a college plan that meets the needs of individual students and conduct home visits, as needed. NGS also provides workshops on the essentials of college life—how to understand an academic calendar, what their child needs to bring to college, how to use Skype, and how to use channels of communication provided by the universities.
