Middle School Scholars is a year round academic enrichment program for middle school students. From The House on Mango Street to cow eye dissections, to the art history of the Mission murals and trips to the theater, this multi-faced academic program aims to nurture college bound culture during the middle school years. Cognizant that the research literature finds that may would be college bound high school student actually lose their way in middle school, NGS focuses on Algebra and Language Arts ensuring the Scholars are well prepared for high school.
During the school year, the program meets twice a week for academic classes with open tutoring available to all students. There are also monthly outings scheduled throughout the academic school year. During the summer, Middle School Scholars take part in a one month summer bridge program that meets Monday through Friday all day. The summer program has a balance of academic and arts classes Monday through Thursday with a field trip every Friday. Field trips include college campus visits to Stanford and UC Berkeley led by Next Generation Scholars currently enrolled, as well as excursions to local museums performances and historic communities.
