How to Apply
Welcome to Next Generation Scholars!
Our mission is to level the playing field by providing dedicated, underserved students all the advantages available to those of privilege. Next Generation Scholars offers students guidance through the entire college application process, including year round academic support, comprehensive application classes, SAT prep, financial aid counseling, as well as wrap-around social services. This program prepares students for college level coursework with college level expectations.
We seek to enroll students who love to learn and have the ability to pursue a challenging college preparatory curriculum. Students will participate in an array of activities outside of the classroom such as attending conferences, workshops, college lectures, as well as internships and community outreach services. We strive to help committed marginalized and/or students of color become the future leaders with a desire to create positive change in our community and global society.
Through out the admissions process the staff at Next Generation Scholars is here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have.
If you would like to apply to be a Next Generation Scholar, there are a few things we need you to do. First, you need to submit four items to the Director of Admissions. You may do so by mail or coming by our office. Please make sure your name and contact information is written on the top of each item.
- A writing sample, this can be an academic essay you wrote for an English, History, or Social Studies class within this past year.
- Your academic transcript, which documents all the classes you have taken and the grades you received in either middle or high school.
- A paragraph explaining why you would like to be part of Next Generation Scholars.
- A list of your extracurricular activities, which can include jobs, internships, sports, clubs, taking care of family members, etc.
Once the Admissions committee has received and reviewed your application, we will contact you about the next stage in the application process. If we think our program is a good match for you, we will ask you to come to our center to meet with us and see what our program is like. We enjoy getting to know our applicats better. Here’s what you should expect:
We’ll have you sit-in and participate in one of our classes so you can get a better idea of what we actually do here and so we can get an idea of what you are like as a student.
We’ll chat one-on-one in an informal interview so we can get to know you as a person and you can clear up any questions that you may have about our program.
Your parent/guardian/siblings may hang out in our center while you’re enjoying yourself in class and during the interview. After your interview, the Admissions Board will meet. We will let you know as soon as we make a decision.
