Curriculum

Next Generation Scholars believes in the power of education and the boundless potential of its students. The Next Generation Scholars curriculum is rigorous and demanding. Class periods include college level lectures and readings.

After a comprehensive skill assessment, an individualized curriculum is created for each student and an extensive college level reading and writing program is geared to fit their needs. Goals are set and progress is routinely checked to ensure each student is progressing to the levels needed to thrive in college.

The college level lectures are based on lectures and materials used at schools such as Stanford, Columbia, NYU and UC Berkeley. Topics include; Political Science, Sociology, Chicano Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Psychology, Urban Studies, Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, International Relations, African Studies, Literature, GLBTQ Studies, Comparative World Religions, and American History.

During lecture period each student is expected to participate in the discussion period. During this time, students are able to develop an academic voice and engage each topic in a forum that will prepare them to be active members of a college classroom.
